This weekend is always a reminder of what Christ has done for us. He gave up his life so that we could one day live with Him. Christ was crucified on Friday and 3 days later He rose again! Praise God for loving us enough to give up His only son!!!
One of my favorite parts about the crucifixion is reading about the veil being torn once he had died. It's such a beautiful image.
The veil separated the Holy of Holies—the earthly dwelling place of God’s presence, from the rest of the temple where men dwelt. This signified that man was separated from God by sin. Only the High Priest was allowed in the Holy of Holies once a year, to offer up sacrifices, so that men could atone for their sins.
At the moment that Jesus died, the veil was torn in 2. Keep in mind, the veil was 4 inches thick and around 60 feet high. Once the veil was torn, it meant that Jesus' was the ultimate sacrifice. The shedding of His blood was all we needed to atone for our sins. Men no longer needed to sacrifice animals, It signified that now the way into the Holy of Holies was open for all people, for all time, both Jew and Gentile.
And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
